What this movie got right was the world the kids inhabited. I found a lot of their exploits endearing and very relatable. I would’ve liked this movie, if it were less an homage to, and less a hodge podge of Spielberg moments. I don’t consider Abrams much of a director really. I think he’s a good Exec Producer but behind the camera, I find his work at the helm less than satisfying and not very original. He leans on lens flares to the point of distraction.
